The Universal Bond Among Workers: A Touch of Nature Unites the Global Workforce.

The Kenya Workers Rights and Harmonization Program (KWRHP) is not a traditional NGO. We are a grassroots movement and a strategic force dedicated to one unwavering goal: eradicating labor exploitation and empowering every Kenyan worker with the tools to claim their dignity.

For over 16 years, since our founding in 2006, we have operated on a simple, radical belief: that a worker’s right to safety, fair pay, and justice should not depend on their ability to join a union or their employer’s goodwill. We step into the gap for the millions of non-unionized, vulnerable workers in the private sector who are systematically exploited, underpaid, and silenced.

We are the shield for the domestic worker facing abuse, the voice for the tea picker robbed of wages, and the hope for the child rescued from trafficking. We combine on-the-ground activism with strategic legal action, turning despair into tangible victories, one case at a time.

Our Story: From a Bungoma Office to a National Force

It started in 2006 in a small Bungoma office. We saw a brutal truth: while unionized workers had representation, the vast majority—especially in agriculture, domestic work, and small private enterprises—were left utterly defenseless. They faced illegal dismissals, horrific safety conditions, and stolen wages with nowhere to turn.

We began by fighting these battles one by one. We won cases, recovered stolen wages, and slowly built a reputation not on promises, but on results. Word spread. What began as a local effort became a regional lifeline, and now a national network. Today, we are a trusted partner to communities, other NGOs, and even unions, known for our uncompromising commitment and our ability to win where others have failed. Our journey is written in the millions of shillings recovered and the thousands of lives given a second chance.

Meet our amazing team

Our Team: The Faces of the Fight

Our strength lies in our people—a diverse collective of passionate Kenyans who bring the fight for justice to life.

We are not outsiders. We are your neighbors, your relatives, and your fellow Kenyans, united in a single purpose: to win your fight because it is our fight too.

The Frontline Responders

Our field officers, often from the communities they serve, are the first on the scene. They speak local dialects, understand cultural nuances, and conduct undercover investigations to gather evidence and provide immediate support.

The Legal Warriors

Our network of pro-bono and in-house lawyers are strategic and fearless. They don’t just file cases; they craft legal strategies that set precedents and challenge corrupt systems.

The Community Educators

These trainers travel to the most remote areas, turning complex labor laws into simple, actionable knowledge in Swahili, Luhya, and other local languages.

The Survivor-Advocates

Many of our team members are themselves survivors of labor exploitation. Their lived experience is our most powerful tool, providing unmatched empathy and credibility.

Frequently asked questions

Whether you are a worker seeking support, a volunteer wanting to contribute, or a donor looking to make a difference—there is a place for you in this movement.

Together, we can build a Kenya where no worker is left behind.

What should I do if I’m fired unfairly?2025-08-21T12:26:01+03:00

Contact us immediately. Do not sign any documents. We will guide you on how to document the situation and begin legal steps

Can you help me if I’m in a remote area?2025-08-21T12:24:07+03:00

Yes. We have field officers across Western Kenya and partner with community-based organizations nationwide. We also offer virtual consultations.

How is KWRHP funded?2025-08-21T12:21:41+03:00

We rely on membership fees, donor grants, and partnerships with ethical businesses and international organizations.

Do you offer educational programs?2025-08-21T12:18:28+03:00

Yes. We conduct workshops across Kenya on workers’ rights, contract negotiation, gender equality, and how to identify trafficking.

How can I become a member?2025-08-21T12:15:37+03:00

You can sign up online, visit our office in Bungoma, or contact us via WhatsApp. Membership starts at KES 200/month.

Where does my membership fee go?2025-08-21T12:08:20+03:00

Every shilling is directed toward our mission. Over 75% funds direct action: legal aid, emergency response, and community education. The rest supports essential operational costs to keep our organization running securely and effectively. We maintain the highest standards of financial transparency.

How can I trust you with my sensitive case?2025-08-21T12:07:50+03:00

Your safety is our paramount concern. We use encrypted communication channels, anonymize all public case details, and have strict protocols to protect your identity from employer retaliation. Our reputation is built on the trust of workers like you.

Are you a trade union?2025-08-21T11:54:55+03:00

No. We are a non-profit that supports both unionized and non-unionized workers. We often collaborate with unions to strengthen worker rights.

I’m not in a union. Can you really help me?2025-08-21T11:56:32+03:00

Absolutely. This is our specialty. The majority of workers we assist are non-unionized. We provide the legal and advocacy support that unions offer their members, directly to you.

How is KWRHP different from the government’s Labour Department?2025-08-21T11:58:59+03:00

We are independent and faster. While we work with the Labour Department, we are not bound by government bureaucracy. We can act immediately, apply public pressure, and use strategic litigation to force outcomes where government processes may be slow or compromised.

How long does it take to resolve a case?2025-08-21T12:01:35+03:00

It varies. An emergency case like a wrongful dismissal can see action within 48 hours. Complex cases like wage theft or trafficking can take months. We move as swiftly as the system allows, but we never give up.
